Sam Fender has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the MVT, which functions to protect the Britain's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his third album his work was declared the top album of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has said.

He is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the award in the mid-90s for their album Different Class, vocalist the singer stated that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician she shared her bounty across multiple charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," the artist explained to a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," said vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected two local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
