The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's locked-room horror holds up well despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has left the local kids on edge. After Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and held captive in a cellar, he fears a fatal end. Yet the non-functional line in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen might rescue him. An effective horror. October 11th, late evening, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, however Chastain achieves to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
